June 15-June 18th

June 15th -continued
After Nutra Hogar and the pool we got ready and went to the casino. A family of a nurse offered to drive us all in the van for $1 each so we did that! The casino was called "Fiesta" and even though it wasn't that packed we still had a pretty good time! I think I said this is my last blog because thats where I left off but we played blackjack and I did pretty good!

 June 16th:
This was finally the day we finally got to sleep in after our 6am wake up calls all week! However, we woke up to the power going off at 8 am! This was a serious buzz kill so we all just decided to make it a cleaning day because the house was getting a little messy and the kitchen needed some work. After we cleaned we worked on some laundry and went to the grocery to get this weeks groceries. We were a little more organized and planned out some meals for this week so that was good! After that we went back home and thankfully the power was back on and we could shower and get ready for the night. That night we were going out to dinner and to a pageant event that the University of Panama was throwing. Funny story-- it was supposed to start at 9 but didn't kick off until 12:30 but thats Panamanian time for you! lol. We only stayed until one because we were exhausted but it was an interesting experience to say the least!

this was where they had the pageant/homecoming

We found these random people to take a picture with and later we found out they were in costumes for the event "Corpus Cristi". If you google "Corpus Cristo Panama" you can see what I'm talking about! We weren't able to attend that event because it rained Saturday morning and our power was out so we didn't make it. But at least we got this picture though!

We tried the Panamanian beer "Balboa"... it was pretty gross.

The girls in the pageant. The one on the left in the green dress represents the University of Panama College of Nursing so we were rooting for her!

Some random boy band in Panama lol

Eventually at like 12 it started to fill up!

Everyone knew the lyrics to theses songs so it must be a popular band here.

June 17th:
We woke up at 9 which was finally sleeping in, and were on the buses by ten to go to the beach! We were all so excited to enjoy a relaxing day off. We stayed at this hotel that had a little restaurant and a pool. We had to pay $2 each to use the pool there! It was worth it though because it was a beautiful day and we just went back and forth from the beach to the pool. We went up to have lunch and it took 2 hours for them to bring our food for the 16 of us! I wish I was over exaggerating but I'm not (Panamanian Time). The beach was awesome and we went back to Chitre around 5. After that we were able to work on homework and shower and relax! It was a little sad for me because it was Father's Day and I only got to text him :( I will make it up to him when I come back though! If you're reading this dad, I love you and happy fathers day!! While we were all laying out on the beach I saw a little girl on her dad's back in the water because she didn't want to touch the bottom and it made me tear up. I shared with the other girls that it was always my favorite thing to jump on my dad's back when I was a little girl :) All the girls shared different stories about our dads so that was our little Fathers Day celebration we had of our own! We got an early night this night because we knew that we had to start a fresh new clinical week on Monday :)

 June 18th
Today it was back to clinical work but this week we changed locations. We still had to wake up at 6 and after the weekend this came pretty early! Our group went to the Psych hospital and the other group went to the social security hospital (which was different than the clinics). We are only here monday through Wednesday and next week our groups switch location so we can see both places. Thursday and Friday we go to the schools in more rural areas of Chitre. Our hospital was half psych patients and the other half was internal medicine patients. Both wings were divided by male and female. This hospital was definitely for the poor people who don't even have social security. The hospital was open to the outdoors with no air conditioning. We didn't do much other than observe but if anything, it really helped me appreciate what we have in the United States. Even the chemotherapy room at this hospital had about 4 beds and was not very clean. Their ICU setting had about 6 beds in one small room and they only contained 2 ventilators and one heart monitor. It is very evident at the "super sick" people in Chitre don't survive if they don't have access to the nicer hospitals and they told us that a lot of people die in this hospital. Tomorrow I get to go to the psych wing so I'll have to let you know how that goes. For now I need to go do school work because it's piling up :) Take care & thanks for reading

The fron area of the main hospital (didn't take any pictures of the psych area so maybe tomorrow I can)

This is all open to the outdoors but this was the female side that I stayed in all day.
